In this article, you will meet Kathrine Kuszon and Villads Rendtorff Zimakoff from our Data Science team, who explain how AudienceProject’s culture fosters a challenging and collaborative problem-solving environment.
When did you join AudienceProject, and what motivated you to start working here?
Villads: We both joined AudienceProject as Data Science and Research Student Assistants in September 2023. Later on, we discovered that we were also studying together.
When I was looking for a student job, I was very picky and searched for specific things and keywords. I particularly liked the word “cutting-edge” in the job ad at AudienceProject, showing that the company and its people contribute to something new and exciting.
Additionally, I’ve been exploring more data science in my free time for a couple of years, and my interest in the area has grown perfectly, combined with my job at AudienceProject.
Kathrine: I was looking for an interesting student job, where I hoped the projects I would get to be a part of would fall within my field and skills, but also challenge me in ways that I am not used to in my everyday life at university. I also wanted to work where I felt “at home”, welcomed and included. That is really important for me when I go to work.
And now, from June 2025 I got to continue as a fulltime Data Scientist, after finishing my master’s thesis – and I’m super excited to stay, to keep learning and to take on greater responsibilities here.
What does a day in the life of a Data Scientist look like?
Kathrine: At the moment, we are mostly working on a synthetic population project, where we represent the true population in different countries digitally based on demographics like age, gender, education, and more. As AudienceProject expands into new markets, we are also creating representations of the populations in the new countries.
We do this by looking for different data sets. We utilise the correct methodology to combine all these data sets and ensure we can get the most accurate representation of the country’s population. For this, we use a good mix of statistical knowledge and programming.
Villads: And learning by doing! It is exciting to be able to shape the methodology for representing new synthetic populations. So, we will have to use different techniques or create our own to represent these populations.

How would you describe the culture at AudienceProject?
Kathrine: I would use the words flexibility and trust to describe AudienceProject’s culture. When working on projects, you are trusted to do so within the frameworks we have decided on. You can decide to work from home and independently. Also, if we have exams, it is great that we can juggle around the working hours to make everything work.
Our colleagues are super engaged, committed, and passionate about the work that we do. Everyone is approachable and willing to help, so working in such a dynamic and friendly environment is easy.
Villads: I would definitely say fun in multiple ways. The people around you are fun and supportive, while the work is academically fun. We get the opportunity to work on interesting topics. We are encouraged to try things out and dig deeper into the problems that we solve, working with real data and real case scenarios.
AudienceProject is a collection of very smart people with different backgrounds. Everyone is willing to share and very interested in what you do. This creates an environment where you can be talking with someone about a project, and then someone walks by and says, “Oh, you are talking about that. Can I join in?”
What do you like the most about working at AudienceProject?
Villads: In general, I quite like our problem-solving and brainstorming sessions because we are creative in our approach. You can also draw on different resources from different people in the company.
These meetings also serve the purpose of discussing our solutions and being challenged on our approach. It is very beneficial to hear other people’s views on the problems you’re working on to get some new insights and find an optimal solution together as a team.
You also get a lot of responsibility, but that also means you rise to that responsibility and learn a lot. Even if we are “only students,” we get to work on exciting and big projects, like the synthetic population, and you really feel listened to.
Kathrine: I also enjoy the discussion and brainstorming sessions a lot, mainly because I feel my contributions are valued and I enjoy hearing the perspectives of my teammates. These sessions provide different perspectives on the problems, and we gain insights from everyone’s points of view.
Why should anyone apply for a job at AudienceProject?
Villads: There are multiple reasons, starting with the personal development opportunities. If you’re looking to hone your skills and learn about data science and problem-solving, then this is the place. I’ve learned so much since I started and truly developed many skills, such as my critical thinking and programming skills.
Kathrine: I definitely agree that AudienceProject is a great place for both personal and professional growth. We are a very passionate group of people, and in our department specifically, we are working with some exciting data, not only in the synthetic population but also with all different types of data across platforms. At AudienceProject, you can challenge our methodology and develop new things while working in a flat company structure.
Moreover, there are lots of activities happening around AudienceProject, like movie nights, friendly football matches, and the running club. This winter, I even participated in a port wine tasting, which is just another example of opportunities to be around your colleagues in a setting other than the office.
